Fire at the promenade jetty casino on 04/04/1883

and building was the work of the English engineer James BRUNLERS, built on the model of identical buildings built in BRIGHTON, GREAT BRITAIN. It burned down shortly before its official opening.

Fortunately, no loss of human life was to be deplored.

This building was insured for 4 and a half million from the companies GRESHAM, LA PATERNELLE and the LONDON JOINT STOCK BANK.

The causes of this disaster remained unknown.

Rebuilt, it opened in 1885 and was permanently destroyed by the Germans during the last world war.
